It is a great pleasure to invite
distinguished MD to be part in establishing an International
Executive Board (IEB) of a World Society varying
in specialties. it's main goal will be dedicate
to a series of "World Medical Congresses on
Quality in Medical Practice" in the spirit
of the Olympiad, starting from the year 2004.
The idea arose after the completion
of the 1st International Conference on "Quality
of Life in Clinical Practice", which took place
in Chalkidiki, Thessaloniki, Greece, on April 5th-7th,
2002.
The innovative aspect of that World Congress comparing
with other similar, was the fact that, expert clinicians
and researchers from different medical disciplines
participated with lectures, round tables, workshops,
satellite symposia and research presentations. The
conference met its goal to provide a forum to medicine
scientists from many specialties sectors, such as
Internal medicine, Surgery and Neuro-psychiatry,
for a global equality discussion under a common
theme, which was QoL (Quality of Life) of medical
practice. Its more than successful outcome led us
not just in continuing it, but also in extending
it'starting from the year 2004, to a unique World
Medical Certainty such as a medical olympiad type
congress, held once every four years.
2004 is a landmark in the history of Olympic Games
as they return to the place where the Olympic idea
was born. The Olympic festival, which was dedicated
to the father of the remaining eleven gods and goddesses
of mount Olympus, Zeus, was one of the greatest
Ancient Greek Events where all cities of the Known-Greek
World were participated.
It is our intention, 25 centuries after this festival
began (776 BC), to call all Medical Societies and
Organizations known to us, from 109 countries not
only to attend, but also to actively participate
in establishing a world medical society which every
four years will organize a World Congress, dedicated
to the Quality of our Medical Practice.
What looks crucial, at this moment, is the organization
of this World Congress, and much more, of such World
Medical Movement. Such coincidence will expect to
be proven not merely symbolic but scientifically
exciting too.
Fortunately both events seem to closely interlock
with each other in many areas, aiding one another.
June's 2004 for example Congress (the 2nd World
Congress) goals, can easily meet the objective of
the proposed World Medical Movement. The reason
justifying such a view does not only lie on the
scientific program planed to cover in a masterful
way a broad spectrum of medical practices, but also
in the different specialties areas. So, this World
Congress can be modified without any problem to
be the 1st Medical Olympiad's type World Congress,
as mentioned.
At the same time it will provide
a vital forum to a "General Assembly"
of clinical scientists from all over the world,
varying in specialties sectors, leading them to
be the founding members of a "Unique Event"
from now on (the name of this World Medical Movement
will be chosen by the General Assembly during the
congress to serve the identity of future conferences).
For this reason we invite to participate National
or International Medical Societies and after elections
a number of 82 scientists to form an "International
Executive Board" ( IEB ).
Eligible for election in this (IEB) will be Presidents
(2004) of National or International Medical Societies,
who will participate with a symposium or a round
table at the above "Medical Event". In
that case if a society submit a symposium proposal
and it's speakers have made on their own the necessary
registration arrangements it's presidents will automatically
be included for election at 2004 meeting.
Moreover the above societies will each have the
privilege to nominate for election one more MD distinguished
scientist 50 to 70 years of age from all over the
world, preferably other than their own nationality,
to have the chance to join them as an equal member
at this "International Executive Board"
(IEB).
Adding to the above members, the honorary MD Presidents
of the congress, the board of the organizing committee
and the 2003 and 2004 WHO Director General (we are
expecting the official confirmation) the number
will become eventually 100, provided that participations
follow our planning.
However, only those who will personally participate
in the June's 2004 conference, will be eligible
to be included at the body of election for the International
Executive Board (IEB) of this World Medical Movement.
In any other case, those who might not be interested
or fail to attend this 1st meeting, will not be
accounted as Members and their place will be allocated
to scientists who would be interested and might
be elected in future Conferences.
In addition to all these, we have
prepared a Charter draft which we are going to send
only to those who are not simply interested but
have also accepted to participate in the "2nd
Congress on Quality in Medical Practice".
An example of the axons in this draft is who, when
and where the next congress will be organize (e.g.
every four years in Greece, or in the Country which
at the time organize the Olympics games (eg. China),
or in a country that every time the General Assembly
of the IEB would propose? ), its legal status, proposed
name, mission, role, etc. It remains to be seen
that this Charter will be amended by suggestions
and votes in the June's 2004 meeting.
Dear colleagues, it would be a
momentous event, far away from political or commercial
complications, bearing in mind that those who will
participate in the contest and conventions, will
follow common rules, established to ensure the best
possible organization of a strictly scientific policy
outline strategy.
Of course, it is obvious that the final decision
will be ratified by a "General Assembly"
of this Movement, held on the 6rd of June 2004 during
the 2nd World Congress on Quality in Medical Practice.
However, we feel that we ought
to inform every one that our budget at the moment
is very limited. For this reason, on the one hand,
remaining loyal to scientific orientation and not
dispensing money for flights and other expenses
even for distinguished participates, seems to be
an unavoidable fact. On the other, it is our intention
to keep this event far more than commercial and
we hope that our thesis comes in accordance with
yours as well. Your approval, support and participation
therefore are invaluable.
To conclude it is believed that this is not just
another scientific movement with a provocative title
and intention, but rather is an Event with many
interesting initiatives such as:
• Innovative organization and congress officers
synthesized.
• A forum to medical Societies and Organizations
to present their innovative findings or practices
of their disciplines every four years.
• Multidisciplinary world medical enrolments.
• An unaccustomed nomination of honored prize
winners to those providing advance and information
about medical knowledge.
• An incorporation of science and culture
of the host country, with social events, which widens
the opportunities for our colleagues to escape from
a possible isolation of their scientific work.
• An Olympiad spirit and a festival of Scientifics
knowledge.
For some this might be a once-in-lifetime
opportunity (on account of place, time and inspired
effort) to be part of the beginning and put his/her
identity of thoughts and signature to an event that
might have more than prosperous a future. For others,
this might be a unique opportunity to join an elite
interactive scientific meeting.
In any case, we believe that every Medical Society
is worth joining such an effort, and it's presence
at this "Medical World Congress on Quality
in Medical Practice", in June 3-6, 2004, as
participant and founder of the above Medical World
Movement from now on, in a possible spirit of the
Olympiad, is indispensable.
